Same-Sex Marriage Initiative Campaign
LGBTory is currently engaged in an important project; lobbying to change the Conservative Party of Canada's (CPC) policy on same-sex marriage. We need your help.
We will be making history by sending a delegation to the Ontario PC Party General Meeting in Ottawa March 4-6. The leader's office has arranged for us to set up a booth on the convention floor, where we hope to spread our "gay agenda" by distributing literature and petitioning delegates and attendees to support us in our efforts to make changes to the federal Conservative Party's 2013 Policy Declaration.
As you no doubt know, the Policy Declaration, approved by the CPC National Council, contains the following language in Section K (Social Policy) Sub-section 70 (Family and Marriage):
- We believe that Parliament, through a free vote and not the courts, should determine the definition of marriage.
- We support legislation defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.
We believe that this policy should be taken out of the CPC's official Policy Declaration, and it is our intention to lobby Conservative leaders for support for this goal on behalf of LGBT Conservatives in Canada. To do this, we have a two-phase plan.
Phase One is to work with politicians and party members in the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party to gather support for change in the federal party. We believe that backing from influential OPCP members will have a significant impact on their federal colleagues in the CPC. To do this, LGBTory Canada will be sending a delegation to the March 4-6 OPC General Meeting in Ottawa.
Phase Two is to send a team to the CPC's National Convention in Vancouver, May 26-28. There we plan to lobby delegates and advocate for making this important change to the CPC's official policy.
Attached to this email is a letter that we sent to the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Interim Leader of the CPC, explaining our position and our rationale for change. We sent a similar letter to Patrick Brown, leader of the OPCP. We don't have to tell you how important it is to the future of the CPC to adopt a more inclusive stance on LGBT issues. Please take some time to read it.
Needless to say, this requires volunteers and money. The costs of setting up a booth and producing materials for the General Meeting in Ottawa will amount to an estimated $10,000. We hope you can help by volunteering at the meeting or by donating funds to help defray the considerable costs.
We need your support. Please spread the word.
