The Honourable Michael Chong, MP for Wellington-Halton Hills, supports an amendment to the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) Policy Declaration to change the party’s marriage policy. There is currently a resolution being put before delegates at the CPC National Convention in Vancouver May 26-28 to remove language from section 70 of the Declaration that states “We support legislation defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.”
In a statement to LGBTory Canada, Mr. Chong said “I am proud to support the motion to amend the Conservative Party of Canada’s Policy Declaration by deleting language that defines marriage as “the union between one man and one woman.” As Conservatives, we are united by our common beliefs in a strong economy, national unity, principled foreign policy, and free enterprise – irrespective of one’s sexual orientation. We are both a country and a Party of freedom and diversity, and I am pleased to support this motion that reflects those same values.”
LGBTory Canada thanks Mr. Chong for his support.
